Daytona Beach Region Growing Too Fast

"[ORMOND BEACH City Commissioner Jim] Privett has called for a residential building moratorium, a tool some say can limit sprawl but others say does little except cost cities money and ill will. Early next year, the Ormond Beach City Commission plans a workshop where the idea will be discussed. Ormond Beach's population has increased by at least 22 percent since 1990, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. That kind of crowding has helped the idea of a moratorium find tentative support from some who think Volusia County is going the way of South Florida -- condos and strip malls everywhere, plus bumper-to-bumper traffic." - excerpt from the Daytona Beach News Journal at http://www.news-journalonline.com/2002/Dec/17/AREA3.htm
