Tsunamis Move Fast

The killer waves can move at incredible speeds and build to awesome heights. The deeper the water, the faster they race along the surface, traveling at 650 m.p.h. over waters with a 30,000-foot depth, for instance, and at 115 m.p.h. over a 900-foot depth. -excerpt from The Ocean Almanac, by Robert Hendrickson, Doubleday, 1984, pg. 299.
