Invading Through Ballast Water

"Each day, more than 3,000 marine species travel around the world in the ballast water of ships, and each day thousands of these foreign stowaways are released into U.S. harbors, lakes and seas once the ships reach their destinations. In the absence of their natural predators, these non-native invaders often thrive and out-compete native species, wreaking havoc on the host ecosystem." - excerpt from the National Wildlife Federation web page at http://www.nwf.org/enviroaction/index.cfm?articleId=300&issueId=33
