Floating, Polluting Smokestacks

"These ships are essentially floating smokestacks," - excerpt from Vickie Patton of Environmental Defense, referring to tankers, container ships and car carriers that have engines similar to those in power plants. They burn fuel that's laden with sulfur, which clogs pollution-control equipment and turns into pollutants that cause health problems. Excerpt from the article at http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2004-08-30-ship-pollution_x.htm
