Deal Made to Protect Vast Expanse of Coastal Rainforest in Northwest Canada
- "The deal expands the total area protected against logging to about 1.8 million hectares (7,000 sq miles), and designates 200,000 hectares (770 sq miles) as special habitat for the spirit bears." - excerpt concerns the deal recently agreed upon to reduce logging and protect vast areas of the Great Bear Rainforest along the coast of Canada between northern Vancouver Island and the south end of the Alaskan panhandle.
