How Many Hours Are Sunscreens Effective?

"Sunscreens must be applied every two hours regardless of SPF level... The reason is that exposure to UVR is actually degrading the active ingredients in the sunscreen, and any sunscreen -- regardless of rating -- will have lost much of its effectiveness after two hours of UVR exposure. Only the physical blockers, such as zinc oxide, maintain high levels of protection for more than two hours and very few sunscreens rely solely on physical blockers." - excerpt from this Skin Cancer Foundation web page.
