Ocean Wave Characteristics

"Another important characteristic of ocean waves is that they are dispersive. This means that, as the wave is travelling along in deep water, its velocity depends upon its period (the length of time between the passing of successive wave crests past a fixed point); the longer the period, the faster the wave." - excerpt from the Surfers Against Sewage publication entitled, The War Report: Waves Are Resources.
