Riparian areas protect both fresh and beach water quality

"Buffer strips [also called riparian areas] protect water quality and fish habitat by filtering sediment, moderating stream temperature, and producing large and small organic debris." - Excerpt from Moscow's Wildlife and Range Sciences. These ecosystem services also help protect beach water quality, as most water eventually makes its way into the ocean. Learn more about the connection between freshwater and beach water quality from Surfrider's Ocean Friendly Gardens Program!
