Ocean microbes can moderate methane, Earth’s temperature
- Methane is a potent greenhouse gas that contributes to atmospheric warming. Researchers have discovered communities of microbes in undersea carbonate rocks “that rapidly consume [naturally-occurring] methane, preventing its escape into Earth’s atmosphere… [and act] like a methane bio filter, consuming it all before it leaves the ocean.” - Excerpt from Harvard University
