Santa Cruz Surfing Museum

"The Santa Cruz Surfing Museum was established in 1986 inside the Mark Abbott Memorial Lighthouse. The lighthouse was built in 1965 by the Abbott family in memory of their son Mark, who died in a body surfing accident nearby. The building was eventually donated to the city of Santa Cruz." (Excerpt from the book, The Monterey Bay Shoreline Guide, by Jerry Emory, University of California Press, 1999, pg. 67)
