California Current
- The California Current is "a cold mass of water some 645 km (400 mi.) wide, flowing southward at .3 to 1 km (0.2 to 0.6 mi.) per hour. Many ocean currents are larger than this one; the Gulf Stream of the Atlantic, for example, moves ten times as much water. Nevertheless, our little California Current has a quite respectable flow - carrying more than 200 times as much as the Mississippi River, or about three times as much as all Earth's rivers combined!"
