New Weather-Ocean Buoy Off the Florida Coast

A new data buoy was launched this week off Florida's Atlantic coast and will assist the National Weather Service in making better marine weather forecasts and will help biologists in monitoring ocean ecosystems. The buoy will collect real time observations of wind speed and air and sea surface temperatures. The new buoy, numbered 41012, will also report the water's salt content, and most importantly for us surfers, will also report wave height. (Source: National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration)
