A companion website is the Coastal Management section of New York State's Department of Environmental Conservation website. This website provides information on coastal erosion, erosion response, and shoreline structures.

The New York State Department of State's (NYSDOS) Office of Communities and Waterfronts website is well organized and easy to use. It provides limited information on beach access and water quality, and some information on beach erosion, erosion response and shoreline structures. The focus seems to be developed sections of the coast as opposed to open ocean recreational areas.

There are several publications and tools available online via the website. These include an Oceans and Great Lakes Atlas, Coastal Policies, Laws and Regulations, Approved Local Waterfront Revitalization Programs, Case Studies, Accomplishment Reports (including Addressing Ocean and Great Lakes Ecosystem Challenges in New York), Guidebooks and Videos.

Links to the Long Island South Shore Estuary Reserve Comprehensive Management Plan, information on coastal hazards and sea level rise and climate change adaptation are on the website.

The New York State Coastal Management Program and Final EIS can be accessed through the publications link on the Communities and Waterfronts website. Its specially tailored standards are used for consistency decisions made by the Department of State and other state agencies except where there is an approved Local Waterfront Revitalization Program. The program defines what constitutes a balance between appropriate and needed economic development and protection and restoration of the natural and living resources of the Sound. It complements the Long Island Sound Study Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan, which focuses on water quality in the deep waters of the Sound, by addressing the upland watershed and harbor and nearshore waters.
