Websites

The Wisconsin Coastal Zone Management Program Website is located within the Wisconsin Department of Administration Website, under the Division of Intergovernmental Relations.

The Wisconsin Coastal Management Program (WCMP) Website is fairly well organized and easy to use. It provides general information on beach access and water quality. It also provides general information on coastal hazards, including great links with more details.

Relevant statutes and rules are not available on line via the Website, but the Wisconsin administrative code can be found at http://www.legis.state.wi.us/rsb/code/codtoc.html and state statutes at http://www.legis.state.wi.us/rsb/stats.html.

Several publications are available on line in Adobe Acrobat format. Among these, the WCMP's Needs Assessment and Strategy 2011-2015 (November 2010) is a particularly useful source of information. This document has sections on public access, coastal hazards, marine debris and wetlands.

Another informative publication available on-line is Wisconsin Great Lakes Chronicle which has been published since 2002. The 2010 edition includes the articles Real-Time Wave Information System at the Apostle Islands Mainland Sea Caves, Wetland Gems: Recasting the Image of Wetlands, and Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) Data. All issues can be accessed online.

Access to photos and maps is limited.

The Website provides links to a range of state, regional, and national organizations.

Another website with information related to several beach health indicators, including beach access, surf zone water quality, beach erosion, erosion response and beach ecology is the newly re-designed Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources website. The search function is quite useful.
