Ever since the 1950s, certain coastal jurisdictions have attempted to prohibit or restrict surfing. Fortunately, surfing and attitudes towards surfing have evolved and surfing is now widely recognized as a healthy activity that benefits coastal areas through a positive economic impact.

In addition, surfing areas represent rare natural resources that provide recreational opportunities and environmental and aesthetic benefits that should be protected.

However, at times surfers continue to get arrested for............surfing. Here are some examples from Montauk, New York; Chicago, and Martins Beach, California.

Notably, the resolution of all these cases has been.........surfing is not a crime.
