The Ocean Ecosystem Initiativeis focused on protecting coastal ecosystems through a proactive approach to conservation. As part of an ecosystem-based approach, Surfrider Foundation considers the full spectrum of activities occurring (or proposed) within an area, and advocates for a comprehensive approach to stewardship. Specific activities of the initiative include: preserving surf breaks; participation in marine protected area (MPA) planning; implementing community-based projects, and participating in renewable ocean energy planning.
